Zaha Hadid is a notable British Iraqi deconstructivist architect.
Born in 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq, she received a degree in mathematics from the American University of Beirut before moving to study at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.
She is also the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize for Architecture.
The Vitra Fire Station [link] [link] in Weil am Rhein was Zaha Hadid's first built project. The relatively small structure serves as a showcase for the unusual shapes and angles that architectural critics had admired in her conceptual work throughout the 1980s.
